Do Giftronaut gift cards expire?
Yes and no. Giftronaut rewards have a standard redemption window of 180 days. The validity period that comes with a specific gift card brand is subject to its own terms.
What is the difference between the redemption window and the validity period?
They are two different clocks, and they run one after the other.
The redemption window is how long your recipient has to claim the reward you sent and turn it into a gift card. Giftronaut rewards have a standard redemption window of 180 days.
The validity period starts after that. It belongs to the brand the recipient picked, and it is the one that most often does not exist at all.
Giftronaut carries products with validity periods of 1, 2, 3, 6, and 12 months as well as 2 and 3 years, and some products that never expire.
| Clock | What it limits | Typical length | Who controls it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redemption window | Claiming the reward you sent | 180 days by default | You, at order time |
| Validity period | Spending the gift card after it is claimed | Often none; 12 months when it applies | The issuing brand |
The most common validity period on Giftronaut is 12 months, and a reward cannot be redeemed after its window closes.
Who sets the validity period?
The validity period of each brand in Giftronaut’s catalog is set by the issuing brand, not by Giftronaut.
That is why the answer differs from one reward to the next, and why the terms shown at redemption are the ones that apply. Once a Choice Card is redeemed for a specific brand, the brand’s terms apply. The Refund Option only returns funds from unredeemed rewards.
What happens to funds nobody redeems?
By default the redemption window is 180 days after which the reward simply expires. If you want unclaimed budget returned, enable the Refund Option when you place the order.
The Giftronaut Refund Option returns up to 50% of the value of unredeemed rewards to the sender’s balance, and the rate depends on the redemption window chosen for that order.
On Giftronaut the Refund Option pays back 50% for a 30 day redemption window, 40% for 60 days, and 30% for 90 days, compared to a default window of 180 days with no refund.
At a glance, from the shortest window to the longest:
- 30 day redemption window: 50% of unredeemed value returned.
- 60 day redemption window: 40% of unredeemed value returned.
- 90 day redemption window: 30% of unredeemed value returned.
The trade is straightforward: a shorter deadline for your recipients buys back a larger share of whatever they do not claim.
Which rewards can be reclaimed?
Only fully unredeemed rewards are eligible for reclamation. Once a reward has been redeemed, even partially, it cannot be reclaimed through the Refund Option.
A recipient who claims part of a reward has moved it past the point where it can be returned to you.
When do I have to decide?
Before the order goes out. The Refund Option must be selected when placing an order. It cannot be added or applied retroactively after the order has been sent.
Your recipients see the result of that choice. When the Refund Option is enabled, the recipient’s redemption deadline is shortened from the standard 180 days to the selected 30-, 60-, or 90-day window. This deadline is shown in the recipient’s reward email.
Where do reclaimed funds go?
Funds reclaimed through the Refund Option are automatically added to the available balance when the selected refund window closes. They appear in the Account Balance tab under the Refund status filter.
