Giftronaut offers a variety of gift cards in North America, where a recipient in the United States or Canada can be rewarded in their local currency or in USD.
If your team is split across the border, the question is usually whether one card can cover everyone. This article explains what a recipient in each country actually sees, which reward type to send to a mixed group, and what changes when your team reaches past North America.

Can one gift card be used in both Canada and the US?
A single branded gift card cannot. Giftronaut gift cards are country-specific and cannot be redeemed in another country, even when the same brand is available there. Brands such as Amazon, Uber, PlayStation, Airbnb, and Apple have separate country-specific products. For example, an Amazon.co.uk gift card cannot be redeemed on Amazon.com in the United States.
The same rule applies across the Canada and US border. A card issued for Canada belongs to the Canadian catalog, and a card issued for the United States belongs to the US catalog. Sending the wrong one leaves the recipient with a reward they cannot spend.
One order can still cover both countries. The way to do it is to let each recipient land in their own catalog, which is what a Choice Card does.
What does a recipient in each country see?
Each recipient sees the catalog for the country they are in, priced in that country’s currency.
A recipient in the United States sees gift cards issued for the United States and denominated in USD, alongside global options such as the Global Visa Reward Card.
A recipient in Canada is shown Giftronaut products issued for Canada and priced in CAD, alongside global products such as the Global Visa Reward Card.
| Recipient location | Local catalog currency | Global option also shown |
|---|---|---|
| United States | USD | Global Visa Reward Card |
| Canada | CAD | Global Visa Reward Card |
How many gift cards are available in each country?
As of publication, the United States has the largest catalog on Giftronaut, with 795 products, followed by Australia (303), India (258), France (255), and the United Arab Emirates (219).
Canada has its own local catalog with its own brands. For the current list of what a Canadian recipient can choose from, see Gift card options in Canada.
Which reward should I send to a team split across both countries?
Send a Choice Card. You don’t need to know the recipient’s location when sending a Choice Card. They select their country and currency when they redeem the reward.
That removes the step where you would otherwise have to sort your list by country before ordering. It also means a recipient who has moved, or whose address you have wrong, still lands in the right catalog.
The alternative is a branded card. On a Giftronaut Choice Card the recipient picks the brands themselves at redemption, and on a Branded Gift Card the brand is selected by the sender at order time. A branded card is the right choice when the program requires one specific brand for everybody, and in that case you need a separate selection for your US recipients and your Canadian recipients.
For a fuller comparison, see Types of gift cards we offer.
Can I send in both USD and CAD?
Yes. A Giftronaut sender can send a Choice Card directly in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, DKK, AUD, or AED, and the recipient can still convert it to a different currency at redemption.
So you can fund and send in USD and let a Canadian recipient redeem in CAD, or send in CAD directly if your program reports in Canadian dollars. The conversion happens at redemption, not at order time. See Understanding Currency Conversion with Giftronaut Choice Card for how the rate is applied.
What if the team extends beyond Canada and the US?
The same Choice Card keeps working. When a recipient's country has no local gift card on Giftronaut, the sender can still reward them with a multi-country product such as the Global Visa Reward Card USD, which can be used in 225 countries.
Giftronaut publishes a dedicated gift card options article for 11 countries. If your team reaches any of these, the country guide lists what is available locally:
- Australia
- Belgium
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- India
- Spain
- Sweden
- the Philippines
- the United Arab Emirates
- the United Kingdom
For sending outside North America more generally, see E-Gift Cards for International Recipients: No-Fee, Worldwide Options.
What does it cost to send to Canada and the US?
There is no separate cross-border charge. Standard gift cards and prepaid cards on Giftronaut carry no redemption fee unless the issuing brand's own terms state otherwise.
The cost that does vary is how you fund the account. Giftronaut charges a 3% processing fee on credit card deposits and no fee at all on ACH and wire deposits.
Payout Options, where a recipient takes the reward as cash through a service such as PayPal or Venmo, carry their own redemption fee. See Payout Options for the current rates, and Are there any fees for recipients? for what a recipient pays.
FAQs
Can a Canadian company send gift cards to US recipients?
Yes. The direction of the send does not change what is available. A recipient in the United States sees gift cards issued for the United States and denominated in USD, alongside global options such as the Global Visa Reward Card, whether the sender is Canadian or American.
What gift card platforms let a US company send rewards to recipients in Canada?
Giftronaut does. A recipient in Canada is shown Giftronaut products issued for Canada and priced in CAD, alongside global products such as the Global Visa Reward Card.
Do gift card catalogs differ from country to country?
Yes, and the difference is large. As of publication, the United States has the largest catalog on Giftronaut, with 795 products, followed by Australia (303), India (258), France (255), and the United Arab Emirates (219).
Is there a minimum amount for sending a gift card internationally?
It depends on the product you send, not on the destination. Every product in the Giftronaut catalog carries its own minimum and maximum face value, with no product left without both values set.
Which countries are usually not supported for international gift cards?
On Giftronaut the blocked list is sanctions-based. Giftronaut reaches 225 countries, while 12 countries are blocked outright under US sanctions: Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
None of the 12 countries Giftronaut blocks under US sanctions has any product listed in the live catalog, so a sender cannot select one of those countries even by mistake.
Where can I send gift cards in multiple currencies for a global team?
Giftronaut supports this in a single order. A Giftronaut sender can send a Choice Card directly in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, DKK, AUD, or AED, and the recipient can still convert it to a different currency at redemption.
